The Quietus: Kevin Shields Interviewed →
Really enjoyed this. Such an interesting and intriguing guy. The Quietus continues to be my favourite website by a country mile. Marv.

Pusherman - Curtis Mayfield
You know when you finally get an album you’ve been meaning to for a very long time, it turns out it’s amazing, and you wonder why it took you so bloody long? This happened to me recently with Curtis Mayfield’s astounding Superfly soundtrack… The man was a genius.
You only really need to watch this clip to 3.45, by the way.

Via Self-Titled Mag. The Permissions of Love EP is out on Mannequin Mailorder on 28 May.

Mmmm, lovely. Best viewed in full screen HD.

La Forêt - Lescop
Been listening to this EP a lot the last few days. A good friend gave me the 10” as present last week. Another track from the record to follow. Pop Noire is the label, and they’ve an exciting aesthetic and roster (which also includes label bosses John & Jehn, as well as the superlative Savages). I can’t wait to hear/see what else they put out.

DGA Interview: Christopher Nolan →
Interesting read, found via Mark Kermode. I’m not really one for blockbusters usually, but I think Nolan is a really great writer and director (his brother is a great writer too). In the interview he conveys a well-defined set of aesthetic values that and his emphasis on craft throughout is pretty refreshing, living in an era dominated by execrable morons like Michael Bay as we do. I will always be excited by the prospect of a new Nolan film.

90º (Get Up & Sue Me) [First Demo] - Sex Act
This is me. Subtitle kindly provided by Mr Leo Condie. A tip of the hat to the Fire Engines, very much due of course.
This is a very rough demo, hence breathing noises, fluffed syllables, rubbish EQ-ing/levels etc.

Themes For An Imaginary Film - Symmetry
Just spent the last two hours listening to this. It’s incredible. Very atmospheric. A journey.

David Toop on Arthur Russell →
It’s twenty years to the day since the very talented Arthur Russell died. I’ve only really begun to explore his (fairly extensive, from what I can tell) discography, but he’s a fascinating character and worth looking into for anyone vaguely interested in electronic/disco/avant-garde/electric cello music.
I think the first thing I ever heard was this, on the incredibly excellent ‘Sleepwalk’ mix CD from Optimo (Espacio).

Was rather excited to receive this tasty little number in the post today. One (or should that be two?) of my favourite records ever.
